Here's a homework assignment: take a photo of you with your kids tonight.
Don’t worry about your makeup (you look fabulous); the grays (who cares); or your baby’s shiner from falling against the coffee table (you’ll put bumpers on next weekend!). Take a photo of you with your kiddo(s).
I don’t have to tell you that these days are both fleeting and endless. I’m sure your smart phone is 99% full because you have photographic proof of your kid’s first everything. You’ll love these photos through the years, when you forget how physically painful the newborn-induced exhaustion feels and when your ovaries ache just a little bit at the thought that your baby-making days are behind you. You’ll be able to recapture those moments of wonder and sweet milky baby scent through the images you took.
But these sweet babies will want to see photos of you, too. One day, they’ll look at the selfie you’re going to take tonight (because you always complete your assignments, right?) and say “Look how beautiful Mom looks!”
You are beautiful. This perfectly imperfect, mad life you’re living is beautiful.
Capture the moment, just as it is.
